Weekend Recap: Stumbling When It Counts

Two games against Charlotte. 1 measly point. The Riverhounds Wild Ride continues. After looking good against Wilmington and Toronto II the Hounds are stumbling again, and at the worst possible time. This was one of those games where the Hounds had plenty of great chances but just couldn’t finish. A game like this earlier in the season you shrug off. Now that we’re in the final stretch it’s a major problem. Charlotte alone still have three games in hand on the Hounds after closing the cap. The lost points over the last two weeks are ones the Hounds desperately needed to hold onto 6th place. If the previous weekend was a good outcome for the Hounds, this one was terrible. Losing in Charlotte and other results around the league has dropped their playoff chances a whopping -24% to 36% overall. Not good. Before the home match two weeks ago team President Richard Nightingale was quoted as saying “this is the most defining game of our season.” After again dropping the ball while up a man, and the loss last weekend, that very well may be true once the season comes to a close. I sure hope he was wrong.

On the bright side the East is so tight that the Hounds are still only 4 points out of 3rd with a game in hand on all the teams ahead of them. Just need to win.

The Hounds travel to Louisville this Saturday for their final meeting with Louisville City this season. It’s going to be a touch match up made even tougher with the loss of captain Danny Earls due to a late red card. Louisville finds themselves within striking distance of first place and are hungry for it. The Hounds need to be hungrier for the chance to play post season soccer.

Steel Army News

A couple quick things-

  • Apparently the re-branded WPNT My Pittsburgh TV (now 22 The Point) will be airing the Hounds next home game against Charleston. YouTube is great an all but for a team that could use exposure TV is even better.
  • The Beaver County Times has written a nice article on the Steel Army. Check it out if you haven’t already.
  • If you missed the email the bus portion of the Harrisburg trip has been cancelled. We reached a deadline where we would possibly lose a lot of money and had to make the tough decision based on sign ups. We’re still going to car pool out to Harrisburg. More details on that as the date gets closer.
