Game 1 Recap: Goals Goals Goals

In Saturday’s post when I talked about wanting the team to be competitive this match was exactly what I had in mind. Three times the Hounds found themselves down by a goal, and three times they came back to tie it up. At no point either did those tying goals seem like flukes or a stroke or luck. The Hounds looked very confident and very determined through out the match. They played with a swagger rarely seen last year. And Hertzog… we’ve never seen him play with that much hunger. He looked like he could be a force this year as long as he stays healthy. All that said things weren’t perfect on Saturday. The defense is still shaky which I can only hope is due to that side of the ball coming together pretty late in the preseason. There was also…

Last season sucked… hard. It started bad and then somehow got worse. We were angry, the club was miserable, and the fun times had disappeared. Going to games became something that more closely resembled work than pleasure. We never want to see it get that bad again. But, we’ve had a couple of months to…

Know Your Enemy: New York Red Bulls II

Well the 2017 season is officially here tomorrow night and I think we can all agree that putting the rough 2016 campaign to bed is going to be a much welcome feeling (tifo spoiler in that opening there for ya). Before I get started with giving you guys some info on the Hounds first opponent, let me just apologize for slacking on the preview column towards the end of (more middle) last season.  I think we were all sharing the same malaise and frustration at a season that pretty much had everything you could imagine and not in the positive sense.

Just like last year though, the Hounds open the season hosting the defending USL Cup Champions, this time the New York Red Bulls II. The Red Bulls ran rough shot over the USL in their second season in the league, posting a very impressive 21-3-6 record…

GAME 6 RECAP: Off the Rails

Saturday was a season defining moment, but not in a way any of us expected or wanted. What Parkes did to Ouimette in the waning moments of the game is indefensible. It’s fortunate Ouimette wasn’t seriously injured and was able to travel home with his team. The kick and ensuing coverage brought a black mark to the Riverhounds and the USL. For a club and league that wants to be taken seriously there was only one acceptable response to it- the immediate suspension and cutting of Romeo Parkes. A lot has been written over the wekeend, and there’s probably more to come in the following weeks. At this point there’s no need for us to pile on. I’ll leave it at this- It’s a shame to see a talented and impactful player throw it all away in one moment. However, everyone is…
