Know Your Enemy: St. Louis FC (2-0-1, 3rd in East)

The Hounds look to build on some momentum earned from the road win in Charleston when they host St. Louis FC tomorrow night at Highmark, looking to post a winning record for the first time in what feels like ages.

Saint Louis is looking good at 2-0-1 and are coming off back to back 3-2 home wins over NYRBII and Ottawa after drawing on the road in Louisville to open the season. Also, in doing some reading up on our opponents I discovered something that I probably should have known. Raise your hand if you knew Jose ‘friggin Angulo was on St. Louis, I didn’t and that’s probably bad on my part, but oh well. If you newer to the Hounds and the Army, Angulo led the line for the Hounds during the 2013 and part of the 2014 season, winning the USL golden boot…

Throwback Thursday’s Best XI (Since 2008)

Who are the best XI since the re-boot of the club in 2008?  Here is my list…

Kutney picks out a pass as Shintaro lurks…

GK – Hunter Gilstrap – 93 games – The confident keeper provided stability between the sticks in 2010, leading the league in shutouts and winning the Goal Keeper of the Year award. Hunter has played more games in goal since 2008 than all other Hounds’ keepers combined.

RB – Jason Kutney – 75 games – 3 goals – Solid, pacey defender who could have played many more games had he not pursued and conquered the dream of building a soccer specific stadium in downtown Pittsburgh. Voted the 2008 Steel Army player of the year.

CB – Nathan Salsi – 56 games – 6 goals – The original El Capitan. Salsi provided stability, composure and professionalism. He led the back line better than any…

Weekday Hangover: The Hounds keep on keeping on, and I like Kevin Kerr

The Hounds keep on trucking through the pre-season as the regular season nears. 11 days people! Get pumped! They came out of last weekend 1-1-0 which brings their preseason record to 3-1-0. While no longer perfect, the Hounds are still undefeated with a cushy +9 goal differential.

Riverhounds defeat Duquesne University 4-0
Riverhounds tie Akron 1-1

I missed both games so I don’t have much to say about them. However, how about that Kevin Kerr? Going into the season the roster is pretty wide open. New coach, new system, a lot of new players… everything is up for grabs for those who are driven enough, and Kerr is showing that he is. Kerr has been well liked among the Steel Army since joining the team in 2013. He works hard, has an intensity about his play, and has a solid midfield game. What he hasn’t really done…

Farewell to Angulo, and other player news

The status of Anuglo going into 2015 has been a question mark for quite a while, and today we finally received some news-

Want to thank the @PghRiverhounds @SteelArmy fans & teammates for the past 2 seasons. Memories that will never be forgotten #unleash

— Jose Angulo (@j_angulo18) February 10, 2015

After Angulo’s MVP season in 2013 it was announced him and Dallman signed two year deals with the Hounds. What was buried during the hoopla was Angulo’s second year was an option, that apparently wasn’t exercised. Angulo was a pivotal player during the Hounds inaugural season at Highmark Stadium in 2013. He was exciting to watch and ended up taking home several league awards such as the aforementioned MVP…
