Know Your Enemy: Richmond Kickers (1-3-0, 14th East)

Richmond Kickers v Aromas Cafe FC 2nd Round US Open Cup

The Hounds are on the road for the third Saturday in a row as they travel south again to Richmond to face the Kickers.

The Kickers are struggling at 1-3-0, following three consecutive 1 nil losses to NYRB, Louisville and Ottawa following Richmond’s opening night win over Harrisburg.

They currently sit in 14th place in the East and only Charlotte sit below them in the standings with fewer points. The loss last Saturday to Ottawa was especially brutal for Kickers supporters as they controlled the majority of the match but could not find the back of the net.  A frustrating home performance is something we all can relate to.

Making it worse was the goal they conceded for the winner, a half field effort from Steeven Dos Santos, catching the Kickers keepers sleeping a little…

Know Your Enemy: Charlotte

Charlotte Independence (0-1-1, 14th in East)

The Hounds travel to Charlotte this weekend to try and put behind the frustrating midweek loss to St. Louis and build on the nice result they had last weekend on the road in Charleston. This could be a good time to play Charlotte, who are winless through two games and appear to be hurting with some injuries in key spots.

Charlotte is 0-1-1 with a loss at home to Charleston and a road draw at Orlando City B and not being too impressive in the process, another road win could be on the horizon for Pittsburgh. Charlotte though is coming off a week’s rest, not playing last week and only having played two games on the season.  This could factor in with the combination of the Hounds traveling south back to back weeks and playing at home on…

Know Your Enemy: St. Louis FC (2-0-1, 3rd in East)

The Hounds look to build on some momentum earned from the road win in Charleston when they host St. Louis FC tomorrow night at Highmark, looking to post a winning record for the first time in what feels like ages.

Saint Louis is looking good at 2-0-1 and are coming off back to back 3-2 home wins over NYRBII and Ottawa after drawing on the road in Louisville to open the season. Also, in doing some reading up on our opponents I discovered something that I probably should have known. Raise your hand if you knew Jose ‘friggin Angulo was on St. Louis, I didn’t and that’s probably bad on my part, but oh well. If you newer to the Hounds and the Army, Angulo led the line for the Hounds during the 2013 and part of the 2014 season, winning the USL golden boot…

Know Your Enemy: Charleston Battery (2nd in East)

The Riverhounds travel down south for their first road encounter of the year and you could say they are already facing a situation in which a loss must be avoided at all costs. Therein lays the peril when you begin you first two games at home and only manage one point from six and all too familiar felling begins to sink in with supporters.  Though, I will try not to get too negative, they were plenty of positives to take away from the first two games and hopefully the boys will build on that when they visit Charleston on Saturday.

What doesn’t bode well for the Hounds is that have not beat Charleston since 2011 and are currently on a stretch of 0-7-4 in those matches. Though, a 1-1 draw with Charleston last year down south is bit hope for a positive result. …
