Game 15 Recap: Head Over Heels

Even a couple a days after the fact I’m still buzzing about the Hounds win on Thursday. They came out against one of the best teams in the Eastern conference and just asserted their will for most of the match. It was a trap game where for once we were the trap. I don’t know if the roster shakeup is what did it or if Brandt really laid into them this week after the abysmal Louisville loss, but whatever it was it worked. This is the Hounds team we like to see.

Maybe saying they asserted themselves / were dominate isn’t the best way to describe it. If you look at the stats Tampa out possessed the Hounds by a wide margin, 63% to 37%, but they weren’t able to do anything with it. Half of their shots were from outside…

Know Your Enemy: Tampa Bay

The Hounds host third place Tampa Bay Thursday night at Highmark, the first time the two teams have faced each other in USL league play, with Tampa joining the USL from the NASL this year. The Rowdies are no stranger to Highmark stadium though, visiting in 2015 for a US Open Cup tie that Rob Vincent would win for the Hounds in extra time.

Despite being third in the east, Tampa Bay is on a bit of a downswing in the form table, winless in their last five games, going 0-1-4. That run consists of four straight draws against Richmond, Rochester, Charlotte and St. Louis.  You could argue that Tampa beefed up on points early in the season against some possibly inferior competition and are falling back to the pack.  The Rowdies are also aided by playing the…

The Riverhounds score late and defeat the Tampa Bay Rowdies 1-0 in the U.S. Open Cup

The Hounds pull off the upset in one of their biggest wins in club history thanks to Rob Vincent’s late goal. The Hounds looked good all game and had several great chances. The back line played phenomenal and prevented Tampa Bay from getting any real good looks at the net. Amazing performance all around. The only knock I have on the team is they could’ve taken a few more shots. There was mumbling in the stands that they caught some Pens-a-citis at times, passing when they should’ve taken a shot.
