When you pair New Jersey with the phrase “Gym, Tan, Laundry” your first thoughts are probably fist pumps and Pauly D. Not so much for the Hounds…
Mike Seamon is a jersey boy at heart: you can take the guy outta jersey, but you cant take the jersey outta the guy. His teammates gave him the GTL moniker up in Seattle, where he was a 2nd round pick in the MLS draft in 2010. Back at Villanova (NCAA), Seamon played just about every attacking position. He completed a stellar collegiate career totaling 20 goals with 18 assists and led the Wildcats in scoring in each of his four seasons.
With the Sounders, Mike has always been on the cusp of regular first team duty, appearing in 20 games over the past 3 seasons. He started out on the right, moved to right back and finally settled in central midfield. Mike has worked hard on his fitness, which he feels allowed him to move into the middle of the field, “I’ve heard the term box-to-box midfielder a lot and I think that’s something that I try to do. At the fitness level I’m at now I’m capable of playing that position.”
Seamon suffered serious leg injuries in 2011 which stunted his progress in Seattle. That club is deep in talent, and as a result, Mike found himself playing in a lot of reserve league matches in 2012.
Scouting reports list his mid-range passing, size and positioning as strengths. We’re excited to have someone of Mike’s pedigree and skill at the club and can only hope that those injury issues are a thing of the past.
