FOUNDED: 1993
Before some of us even knew our times tables…Jesus…
OWNERSHIP: Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club
The last meeting of the ownership group centered around not talking to strangers and screening the most recent season of “The Wiggles.”
But seriously, the present of RKYSC is this guy, Rob Ukrop:
Apparently, he played for the original Kickers team. Still hasn’t gotten the memo about Rogaine.
Local Virginians worship him.
COACH: Leigh Cowlishaw
Played for the Kickers. Trying to pull a Justin Evans. But he is no Justin Evans. There’s only one Justin Evans.
MASCOT: Kickeroo
1. Does it even look like a kangaroo? 2. Why is it using a scooter instead of hopping around? 3. Is this some kind of hybrid between a kangaroo and a hippopotamus?
All legitimate questions.
2012 SEASON: 11-8-5 (4th out of 11 in USL PRO)
PLAYER TO WATCH: David Bulow, M
Bulow was one of the Kickers’ leading goal scorers last season. He also set a record for the most goals scored by a USL PRO player in the US Open Cup last season. He always seems amused at our antics during matches. Good guy.
SUPPORT: River City Red Army (Facebook)
Don’t really know much about them. They paint their faces? I guess that’s neat?
DYSON’S LOWDOWN: The Kickers have been a thorn in the side of the Hounds for the past few seasons. They always have a quality team, and seem to have our number. Their team always features productive goal scorers; by the time they are done scoring, it is usually too late for the Hounds to play catch-up.
The Kickers always find a way to end the season near the top of the USL PRO table. Hopefully that won’t be the case this season. Hopefully, we can go into Richmond and take some points away from these weiners.
