Harrisburg Away Trip

My second experience ever with the Steel Army was in the summer of 2009. I had only gone to one Riverhounds match at Chartiers Valley High School, and several of the members invited me to join them in a carpool up to Harrisburg to see the Hounds take on the City Islanders.

“What was I getting myself into?” I thought…

This is when I truly got a chance to hang out with and bond with the other members. I quickly realized why these guys (and girls) kept coming out to a high school stadium to support their local club. The camaraderie displayed by these individuals and willingness to immediately accept new members into their club made this one of the most unforgettable (or forgettable, depending on your perspective) experiences I have had in the past few years.

We ended up losing the match, but it didn’t matter — between Troegg’s Dreamweaver drafts at the stadium, taking our shirts off at half-time for no apparent reason, and trying (unsuccessfully) to walk off with Harrisburg’s corner flags at the end of the match, we had a blast.

Some bachelorette party challenged the Steel Army to a dance-off at the post-game party. We may not have won the game, but we won the dance-off…

On Friday, June 21, we will have the first opportunity in quite some time to invade Harrisburg. Games at Skyline Sports Complex were scheduled on Tuesdays and Wednesdays multiple times, preventing SA members from making the trek out. When there finally was a game on a weekend, the game got rained out.

Considering the increased attendance in the supporters’ section this season, we have the chance to make this Harrisburg away trip HUGE.
