The last time that the Hounds played LA in their house, Jason came down from the stands, off the bench, and helped the team earn a 0-0 draw to steal a point from LA.

Now, the Blues sit one spot ahead of the Hounds in the USL PRO table. With a win today, the Hounds could retake the 8-spot in the standings and move back into playoff contention.

An unlucky deflection elevated Charlotte to a 3-2 win on the 4th of July. The Riverhounds out-shot their opposition 14-5 in the first half in the game against the Eagles. Charlotte was kept in the game by a goalie standing on his head for most of the game.

The Hounds need to maintain their intensity just as much as we need to do the same. The Army has been given a lot of privileges in the Highmark this season, and despite the recent “cease and desist” order on swearing, we need to bring the energy that the players feed off of during the match.

Let’s do it.

LAST MEETING: May 5, 2013 – Cal State Fullerton Titan Stadium, Fullerton, CA – 0-0 Draw

WHAT WE SAID IN OUR RECAP:

What a statement by Jason Kutney. Instead of going down into the locker room to give the boys a pep-talk before the match, he suited up and joined the Hounds on the pitch against the LA Blues.

Even though the Hounds didn’t bring back a win from their westward excursion, they at least brought back 2 points. The announcer on USL Live kept commenting on how the defense looked more “compact,” and it showed in the fact that the Hounds made the LA Blues–who currently sit at 2nd on the table–look quite ordinary.

HOUNDS PLAYER TO WATCH: Andrew Marshall, D – Since signing with the Riverhounds in the offseason, Marshall has anchored the center of the defense with Sterling Flunder to provide consistent clearances for Hunter in goal. Marshall picked up a tally in the last match against Charlotte on a header off of a corner kick. He provides leadership and energy on the backline, and unfortunately also had the own goal on Thursday. Look for him to have a big game and re-bound.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING: New Pittsburgh Courier

Following a home game against the Antigua Barracudas on July 4, the Blues travel to the east coast for a set of games in the Keystone State. On Saturday, the Riverhounds will host the Blues for the second leg of the 2013 season. The two sides met at Titan Stadium in early May, resulting in a 0-0 draw.

At the game, the Riverhounds will be celebrating Latino Heritage Night to honor the Latin culture. Latin-inspired music and salsa dancing from Los Sabrosos will take place when the gates open at 5:00 p.m. Throughout the game, the Riverhounds will raffle off door prizes from local Latin-based restaurants and businesses. Following the game, an after party will take place on the concourse area outside of the Starting XI Bistro with more Latin music, dancing, and drink specials.
