The votes are in and we have our Players of the Year at each position for the 2013 season.
Forward of the Year 2013: Jose Angulo
Angulo leads the team and the league in the goals scored category with 12. Many times this season he has shown off his amazing touch giving opposing keepers no chance to stop his shot. Angulo’s dominating offensive presence this season has played a large role in the Hounds success on the field. He’s definitely ‘got what we need’.
Midfielder of the Year 2013: Matt Dallman
Dallman is another player whose 12 assists not only leads the team but also the league in this category. He’s played a roll in 45% of the Hounds goal this season, second only to Angulo. Anytime you see him streaking down the side it puts you on the edge of your seat. Dallman’s perfect passing and play on the wings make him our Midfielder of the Year.
Defender of the Year 2013: Richard Costanzo
While he may not have big stats like our offensive winners, Costanzo has been a solid rock on the back line this year. He is one of only two players on the team who’ve played in every match this season, and is averaging 86.5 minutes a game. Costanzo is our captain for a reason, and his leadership has lead the back line to having the 4th lowest Goals Against total in the league at 25 GA’s in 22 games.
Goalkeeper of the Year 2013: Hunter Gilstrap
Gilstrap has been a force in net this season boasting one of the best Goal’s Against averages in the league (1.17). He’s also in the top 8 of every goalkeeper stat category the USL tracks, and often in the top 5. Many times as we sat behind him we’ve seen him make amazing saves and frustrate the opposing forwards.
Now that we have our Player of the Year at their positions, it’s time to determine who is the overall Steel Army Player of the Year for the 2013 season! Be sure to stop back on Monday August 5th at noon when the polls open once again and vote!
