The Steel Army invades California University of Pennsylvania’s Phillipsburg Soccer Facility on Saturday, Sept. 21 to support the Vulcans as they face the Davis & Elkins Senators.
The Vulcans, led by new head coach and Cal U alumnus Emedin Sabic, look to improve their record on the year to 3-2. They’ve won their only home game so far and are outscoring opponents 7-4 with 0 goals conceded in second half play. Jeffery Kyei and Kevin Helbig lead the squad in goal scoring with two apiece while keeper Shane Donovan has already posted a shutout this season.
The Senators of Davis & Elkins make the trip from W. Va. in dire need of a win. The squad is 0-3-1 so far this season and they’re being outscored on the pitch 10-3. Their offensive production is split between three players – Oliver Bienias, Declan McGill and James Pucci – all with a goal each. [Steel Army: Since this writing D&E have improved their record to 1-3-1]
David & Elkins hosts Ohio Valley for conference play Thursday before making the trip to Cal U for their non-conference match, so it’s possible for them to come to Pa. in a better position than they find themselves in now. That position will be fought for though, and with Cal U off until Saturday expect them to take full advantage of the winded D&E 11.
The Vulcans also see Pitt-Johnstown this weekend in conference play.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Tyler McCarthy, M – McCarthy is a name Riverhounds fans might recognize as one of the two academy players signed by the Hounds late in the season. McCarthy was able to train with the Hounds before starting his freshman year at Cal U. He may not have the stats yet, but McCarthy is already playing a full 90 for the Vulcans. We’ll keep an eye on him to see what he learned in the Hounds system. Who knows we may see him train with the Hounds again next summer.
