Matt Grubba from the Trib has reported that the Hounds will officially bring back Michael Green, Sterling Flunder, Seth C’deBaca, Greg Blum, Mike Seth, and Rob Vincent for the 2014 USL PRO season.
- Having Flunder return is a no-brainer. Not only has he been a mainstay on the Hounds’ back line, but he also is coaching at the new Riverhounds Academy in Connelsville.
- When Mike Seth first joined the club, he started on defense. Although he spent much of 2013 subbing at forward, he may be deployed as a wing back.
- Justin Evans has said that he will have tough decisions this year in the midfield. This is a good problem to have. C’deBaca and Green have been with the club since 2012, and Rob Vincent started to come into his own at the end of last season with some timely goals. This will be the deepest midfield we’ve seen the Hounds have in some time.
- GK was a glaring weakness for the club last season. Both Hunter and Blum allowed several late-game goals that changed the momentum of several matches last year. This position could end up sorting itself out by April through competition. The Houston Dynamo selected GK Michael Lisch in the third round of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. With Tally Hall and Tyler Deric already on Houston’s roster, Lisch seems to be a logical candidate to be loaned to the Riverhounds this season.
These players know what Evans expects, and it will be interesting to see how the pre-season training in Houston helps chemistry continue to develop between these players.
