Three Players on Trial for Hounds in Houston

By @SAdyson

If you didn’t see already, the Hounds posted a match report of their first preseason spar in Houston against the Dynamo U18s.

Hidden in the recap were the names of three players that are apparently on trial to join the Hounds’ roster for 2014.

Fekete-3119

Brian Fekete, D

Previous Club: Orlando City SC

You can find Fekete’s video from the 2013 MLS SuperDraft here. He’s 6’1″ and seems to play predominantly at the wing-back position. Physical, fast, and having the ability to take set pieces, he may be a key addition to a thin Pittsburgh back line.

Miro_Cabrilo

Miro Cabrilo, F

Previous Club: Robert Morris University

Miro scored both of the goals (one on an assist from Dallman, the other during a PK) during the match against the Dynamo Academy team on Monday. Miro stands at 6’1″ and could add some size up front for the Hounds. In 2013, he scored 4 goals for the Colonials while also recording 6 assists.

Dillon, Paul

Paul Dillon

Previous Club: Marquette University

The MLS scouting report for Dillon characterizes the 5’8″ defender as a “dominant, attacking left back.” Probably the most damning statement in his report is that he “needs to work on defense, because he gets forward probably too much.” Dillon got work during the second half of the preseason match.

NOTES:

  • It seems as though the Hounds are using this preseason trip to address their needs at wing back. Costanzo and Green held down the fort last season, but it would be good to see players with true defensive pedigree at wing back.
  • Just because Tuffy & Co. dropped some cash this offseason doesn’t mean that the Riverhounds are completely abandoning their reliance on local prospects to build depth. Cabrilo–an RMU grad–is getting every opportunity to make the team before the season.
