Is Phoenix FC Dead?

PhoenixDead

After months of uncertainty and weeks of increasing doubt, Phoenix FC may be dead.

Last night, the club posted the following message on its webite;

To the fans and followers of Phoenix FC:

We regret to inform you that after much effort and energy to bring professional soccer to Phoenix, ASM, LLC will no longer be operating a USL PRO franchise.

We sincerely appreciate all the support and enthusiasm of our fans in hopes of making this venture successful.

Sincerely,

Phoenix FC Management

For a team that currently doesn’t have a single player signed and ongoing debts from last season, this message would seemingly signal the death of the Wolves.

However, after that message was posted, Odeen Domingo published a report on ODFC News that while the team’s ownership group is now gone, the team may still compete in 2014.

The group that will take over the USL PRO franchise rights in Phoenix has taken 100 percent ownership. And the management of the team will change; with a new general manager as one of the main differences. The new group will likely help pay the debts the club accumulated through its tumultuous first season. It’s something that needs to be done before the club can officially sign players.

Like sands through the hourglass…

If Phoenix FC were to fold, they would be the seventh team to pass on in only three seasons of USLPro. The team’s first game is scheduled for March 30 against the Colorado Rapid’s reserve side. The Hounds are not scheduled to face Phoenix until August 16, in Arizona. The Wolves would then come to Highmark Stadium to complete the regular season on September 6.
