For the last year and a half, I have had the opportunity and the joy to be President of the Steel Army. I have been a part of this supporters group since 2008 and when Chris Esposito stepped down and asked me to take the lead, I took the opportunity with great pride. In the last year and a half, we grew by leaps and bounds in our first season at Highmark Stadium, saw classic Open Cup draw and witnessed our Riverhounds make the playoffs in stunning fashion. This year, we took a major step forward in making the group a LLC, with hopes of moving towards a nonprofit organization. We stared taking membership dues to create better merchandise and bigger TIFO and the response was overwhelming, meeting our goals even before the Hounds played a minute. I stand a little taller when I tell people that I am a part of the best supporters group in USL PRO.
On a personal note, my wife and I celebrated the birth of our first child. Now six months, being with my son has taken a bigger role in my life than the duties that come with leading the Steel Army and for that I must step down from being your President. I cannot provide my undivided attention anymore and this group needs someone who can do so.
While this played no role in any way, shape or form in my resignation, I have been offered various positions to work for the Riverhounds on a freelance basis. The opportunities came about after my resignation. I am making time for this because this will help me provide for my family and further my career, which is in the media field. I want to thank each and every one of you for moving this group into a great direction. I leave the Steel Army in the hands of Vice President Bobby Zebrasky and the Board of Directors. In them, I know that they will continue the plans and goals that we have set forth for this season and will pave a new way for years to come.
