It’s that time of the year again Army. It’s time to decide who will receive our Player of the Year award. Even with a lackluster season and a place in the standings we don’t particularly enjoy, there are players on this team whose work ethic on and off the field has stood out. Our Player of the Year isn’t a purely stats based award. This isn’t the Golden Boot. We don’t limit our decision solely to on the field performance (though I’m sure that does play a big part to some of us). It could be someone who takes more time than required after games to interact with fans. It could be someone who still puts in long hours at the Academy after a tough weekend. It could be someone who you see out on the field, in all types of weather, warming up alone well before anyone else. Our Player of the Year is someone we feel personifies the passion, dedication, and hard working attitude that defines Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh soccer.

Steel Army members, the polls are now live on the Speakeasy page. We have polls for each position as well as the overall poll. The overall poll is the one that decides the award. If you have forgotten the password check your latest Dispatch email. If you are a member and haven’t received a Dispatch let us know and we’ll get you the details. Polls close Monday September 19th at 12 noon (ET). The Steel Army Player of the Year will be awarded at the last home game on September 24th.

Housekeeping note: With the roster turn over this season we’ve enacted a 25% rule to keep things manageable. A player must have played in at least 7 matches this season (as of today) to be considered.
