Hey Army!
With the home opener coming up this weekend there are a couple small changes with our section I want to make everyone aware of-
1) The supporters section is a little smaller this year. If you haven’t been on Ticketmaster you may have missed that only the river side of the East stands is now designated as the supporters section. The two sections closer to the grandstand are now assigned seating. Stinks to see the supporters section shrink but it’s not like we were taking up the entire stand anyways. This won’t really effect the core of us, but if you’re kind of a fringe supporter who stands off to the side be aware you need to go towards the river side if you have a GA ticket. Maybe make a new friend with the ambulance driver.
2) We talked about this at the AGM but just so that everyone knows, we’d like to simmer down a bit of the drums this season. We love drums, and we’re still going to have them, but the number of drums has outpaced the growth of our section and they’re now all you hear throughout the stadium. It was a common response on the year end survey that they’re overpowering. We definitely want to make sure our voices are heard. Our plan will be something along the lines of our bass, a snare and that’s about it. If you’ve drummed in the past we really appreciate what you’ve done and hope you understand. Perhaps the drum corps can switch off with each other more often and enjoy some breaks. It’s going to be a long season after all.
3) Smoke bombs can only be set off by designated Steel Army members. The USL is implementing and enforcing league wide smoke bomb standards this season and part of that is they only want certain designated persons to set them off. These standards aren’t really any different than the guidelines we hashed out with the Hounds and have been operating under for the last few seasons. That said we have been a little lax on them from time to time. Word is the enforcement of the league guidelines will be a little stricter and so since we want to continue to use smoke we will need to self police ourselves better. We hope you understand.
