Know Your Enemy: Richmond Kickers (1-3-0, 14th East)

Richmond Kickers v Aromas Cafe FC 2nd Round US Open Cup

The Hounds are on the road for the third Saturday in a row as they travel south again to Richmond to face the Kickers.

The Kickers are struggling at 1-3-0, following three consecutive 1 nil losses to NYRB, Louisville and Ottawa following Richmond’s opening night win over Harrisburg.

They currently sit in 14th place in the East and only Charlotte sit below them in the standings with fewer points. The loss last Saturday to Ottawa was especially brutal for Kickers supporters as they controlled the majority of the match but could not find the back of the net.  A frustrating home performance is something we all can relate to.

Making it worse was the goal they conceded for the winner, a half field effort from Steeven Dos Santos, catching the Kickers keepers sleeping a little bit. Check it out here at the :36 second mark, with the other choice goals from the USL last week

It was also Ottawa’s first USL win for the first year franchise which is a really tough loss to take at home for Richmond.

It is pretty obvious for a team that has only scored one goal all year that Richmond is having trouble scoring. Connor Shanosky has the lone tally for the Kickers in their lone win.  Look for Brazilian duo Oliver and Fernandez to try and break the offensive slump for the Kickers, they have not scored yet, but have put a lot of efforts on target.

The Kickers have a friendly set up with Swansea in July which is something we would like to see the Hounds try to do again, but that’s for another time.

Here’s to another solid effort on the road and three points in Virginia
