This team wants to win. There is no doubt about that.

Someone needed to step up. Someone needed to take 0-1 deficit by the balls and right the ship.

That “someone” was Andrew Marshall, who, although part of a defense that has been more of a sieve than anything, took it upon himself to join the attack and equalize the score late in the match to steal three points from Phoenix.

We need more moments like this, where individuals on the team are hungry for a win, night in and night out.

FIRST HALF

11′ Donny Toia takes a shot 25 yards out leaving no chance for Hunter to make a save. 1-0 Phoenix.

15′ Toia almost has another opportunity, but turns the ball over, leaving Angulo with a chance in the Phoenix zone.

31′ Arteaga finds himself on the wing, crosses it to Angulo. Weber is there to shut down the play.

42′ Arteaga has another breakaway attempt inside the Phoenix penalty area, but shoots the ball wide-left. Missed opportunities galore.

45′ A qualitative look at the possession would point towards Phoneix dominating early in the game.

SECOND HALF

49′ The Wolves’ Anthony Obodai found a wide-open Diego Faria just outside the box, who missed a few feet high of goal.

50′ Toia shoots straight at Gilstrap for an easy save. Scary opportunity.

65′ C’deBaca and Amoo on, Dallman and Arteaga off.

73′ Phoenix’s Hedrick receives a caution.

79′ Andrew Marshall joins in on the attack, finds a loose ball in the Wolves’ penalty area, and taps it home. GOOOAAALLL! 1-1 tie.

84′ Seth on, Arteaga off.

87′ Diego has an opportunity in the Hounds’ end, but the shot was deflected away for a corner kick.

NOTES:

  • Espo made a good point during the beginning of the match. Tactics or individual failures on the D?
  • 2013-05-04_1926

  • Johnny Arteaga is now ranked 6th in USL PRO with 14 SOG so far this season. He is clearly generating opportunities up front. One of the balls will go in the net. Be patient.
  • Evans seems bound and determined to make the Seamon/Costanzo experiment on D work. The defense began to clamp down a bit in the second half. It will be interesting to see over the next few games if this defensive four–Costanzo, Marshall, Flunder, and Seamon–can do the job. Flunder has been a bit invisible thus far in the season.
  • Hunter came out numerous times and literally assaulted the Phoenix forwards near the edge of the penalty area. Is this a sign that he does not trust his defense at all?
