RECAP: Can't Take Our Eyes Off Amoo, Hounds Win 4-1

By @SAdyson

Film de Gil JUNGER

We knew that Antigua was not going to simply lay down and let the Riverhounds win.

After Amoo gave the Hounds a 1-0 lead, Antigua equalized, and it looked as though we were going to be in for a long one.

But this is the 2013 Riverhounds, not the team from 2012 and prior. With grit and character, the Hounds retook the lead and never looked back, putting them in playoff position for the first time this season.

The Hounds are currently showing a 9 OUT OF 10 on the #JUICED meter!

After Antigua equalized the game, the Hounds came back and scored THREE unanswered goals! They still remain unbeaten in USL PRO play in 10 STRAIGHT GAMES, but the score could have been a little higher for comfort…other teams in the league have beaten up on Antigua and scored as high as 8 goals against them. The sleeping giant is slowly awakening, and it is only a matter of time before the Hounds’ scoring becomes prolific.

NOTES:

  • The Hounds continue to put their midfield depth on display with Vincent joining in on the scoring on Sunday. With Seth C’deBaca and Kevin Kerr out with injuries, Rob Vincent and Ryan Kinne are doing more than their part to keep the team afloat. Kinne was all over the field and had some excellent crosses.
  • These are the kinds of games that Darren Amoo needed to show Justin Evans that he deserves more playing time. Amoo has fully taken advantage of the opportunity afforded to him by Jhonny Arteaga’s absence, and he is making a strong case that even when Arteaga returns he should remain in the starting lineup. Amoo had a fantastic pre-season, and for whatever reason he found himself riding the bench at the beginning of the regular season. Look to Evans to find more ways of getting Amoo the ball inside the opponents’ penalty area.
  • Huge effort by the Steel Army on Sunday. It was hot and miserable, but the supporters’ section kept going for 90 straight minutes. There were plenty of new faces at the tailgate and in the section, and it looks like the influence of the Steel Army is starting to spread to some of the surrounding sections.
