The Steelers Should Learn from the Riverhounds

In 2012, it was announced that the Riverhounds had acquired land by Station square and were going to build a new stadium in the city. One of the most surprising caveats to this story was the fact that the stadium would be funded entirely by private investors. The estimated cost of Highmark Stadium was $7 million.

Fast-forward to 2013, and the Rooneys are threatening to sue the city of Pittsburgh in order to have the taxpayers fund at least two-thirds of the $35 million bill to expand Heinz Field by 3000 seats.

This is absolutely absurd. After it was all said an done, Highmark Stadium was built for roughly one-third of the cost of this expansion to Heinz Field, all with private funds.

There is absolutely no doubt that the Rooneys have enough money to fund whatever expansions and future renovations fit their fancy. They are just trying to squeeze as much money out of the city of Pittsburgh as possible.

Watch Jason Kutney come up with private investors to fund the imminent 3-phase expansion of Highmark Stadium to approximately 18,000 seats in the next ten years, and then rub his balls in Art Rooney II’s face.
