With the Riverhounds season at an end, the Steel Army needs something to keep us going for the offseason. We don’t want the natives getting restless, do we?
It came up on Twitter that might be a cool idea to check out the local colleges and go to a handful of games. So that’s what we are going to do.
Bluto is a Yinzer (and a ISA brother).
The follow dates encompass the first Steel Army college tour:
- September 21st- California University of PA vs Davis & Elkins @ 3
- October 12th- Point Park University vs Asbury @ 12
- October 13th- Robert Morris University vs Fairleigh Dickinson @12
- October 26th- University of Pittsburgh vs North Carolina @ 7
- November 8th- Duquesne University vs George Mason @ 7
TOUR NOTES:
- Point Park University, located in downtown Pittsburgh, will be playing all their home games at Highmark Stadium this year. The Pioneers, members of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in NAIA, are coached by Riverhounds goalkeeper coach Jeroen Walstra.
- Pitt is on the move to the Atlantic Coast Conference, with a roster that includes a few international student-athletes from places like Scotland and Switzerland. Hunter Gilstrap, the Hounds #1, is an assistant coach for the Panthers. The game we plan on going to will be broadcast on ESPN3.
- Duqesene University has been a springboard for a few current and former Riverhounds. Former midfielder and Hounds legend Travis MacKenzie has his name plastered all over countless lists for his time as a Duke from 2004-07. Current Riverhound Stephan Lundberg is only a few places behind T-Mac in most goals. Other notable alums include former captain Nathan Salsi, former player and current assistant coach Scott Gibson and Riverhounds CEO Jason Kutney.
Information will be posted about carpools and pregame/postgame events.
