RECAP: Fail to Pitt, Hounds Win 2-0

By @SAdyson

The Hounds won, but arguably against one of the worst soccer teams in the ACC. They came out flat at the beginning of the game but turned up the heat in the second half.

Hunter earned a clean sheet and made enough saves to keep the Hounds in the game. Vincent and C’deBaca picked up the two goals for the Hounds.

NOTES:

  • Miro Cabrillo > Mike Seth, hands down. Seth started the game at forward and played clumsily. The story of Mike Seth has been inconsistency, and he looked out of sorts in the first half. Miro came in and made an immediate impact. Not only did he play physically, but his ball control is much better than Seth’s.
  • Rob Vincent is officially the quarterback of the Hounds’ midfield. His vision so far this preseason has been impeccable. He also found the back of the net today on clean up duty. He seems to have a knack for finding the “sweet spots” in the middle of the field and exploiting them. Expect huge things from him this season.
  • Matt Dallman was EVERYWHERE on the field tonight. It seemed like we were guaranteed a cross from Dallman every five minutes in the second half. He seems to be drawing a lot of attention, too, when teams catch on to his skill set. This is good, because it might open up the way for other midfielders to work the opposite side.
  • Good to see C’deBaca score. He was a worker bee tonight — kept grinding and fighting for 50/50 balls in the midfield and supporting the defenders well. It was also neat that Niko picked up the assist on the goal.
