Riverhounds file Chapter 11

So some Riverhounds news dropped today (see below). The important thing to remember is that the season is still starting in a couple of days. The Steel Army will continue to support the players with the passion and dedication we’re known for.

We don’t have anything else to say at the moment because frankly we don’t know anything. Once we hear more, and if there’s anything worth saying, we’ll make another post. Otherwise, while it’s an overplayed meme, keep calm and #UNLEASH

We’ll see everyone at Hough’s on Saturday.

Dear Pittsburgh Riverhounds season ticket holders,

As a loyal season ticket holder of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, you are important to us. We wanted to reach out to you and let you know of some important developments within our organization, and also provide assurance to you that the Pittsburgh Riverhounds continue working to make 2014 the best year yet at Highmark Stadium. The most important thing to know is that all Riverhounds activities and games, particularly the regular season scheduled to open at Highmark Stadium on April 12th, is on schedule for this year.

Last night, the Limited Partnerships owning and operating Highmark Stadium and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Professional Soccer Club company each filed a voluntary petition under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

Majority owner, Terrance Shallenberger, will provide interim debtor-in-possession financing (DIP Financing), which will enable both the stadium and team to continue to operate without interruption. As previously stated, this means the 2014 soccer season for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds will commence as planned on March 29
in Orlando, and the first home game will be April 12 at Highmark Stadium.  All other planned activities at Highmark Stadium will proceed as scheduled.

The companies owning and operating Highmark Stadium and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds are reorganizing current operations and restructuring their debt obligations due largely to debt incurred during the construction of the stadium throughout 2012 and 2013.  Due to those debt obligations, the companies have determined their current operating and revenue models could not support continued debt service.

Current majority ownership has been working diligently since taking control last year to cut costs, reduce debt and increase revenue.  Ultimately, it was determined that to ensure long-term viability of the companies, it was necessary to file for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection and reorganization.

This process is critical to the long-term viability of Highmark Stadium and the Riverhounds.  With this in mind, we appreciate your continued interest and support.  We will keep you informed as the process moves forward.

Thank you,

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds & Highmark Stadium organizations
