RECAP: Bottom of the Table, Hounds Draw 0-0

By @SAdyson

“This is the first full 90 minutes that we’ve put together…”

-Evans

That statement could not be truer. Given that this team made several big signings in the fall and winter — and the extra time that the team had during the preseason to develop team chemistry — it is extremely disheartening to see the Hounds sitting not-so-pretty at the bottom of the USL PRO table.

Things are brutal for the Hounds on the attack at the moment. Not having Angulo and Collins is really setting the team back offensively.

The one positive note to take away from this match is the good defense that the team played in front of Lisch. Other than that, this was another wasted opportunity for 3 points against a side (Charleston) that has also been struggling out of the gates this season.

NOTES:

  • This game was a defensive grudge match. Towards the end of the game, Johnson and other attackers for the Hounds generated some quality chances but couldn’t put any away.
  • Marshall is still riding the bench, but it seems like the 3-5-2 formation is helping the Hounds utilize the personnel on their roster in the most efficient way possible. Green and Earls may not have defensive pedigrees, but they have been serviceable. Arena is getting a ton of work at CB this season.
  • Lisch made up for that rather soft goal against Richmond last weekend with a performance this Saturday. His playing style is perfect for the 3-back formation the Hounds have been using — he is extremely aggressive in the penalty area and moves quickly to smother any balls that have not been retrieved by his backs. Look for him to get more starts as the season progresses.

We still have yet to get 3 points. Just throwing that out there.
