Join us every Monday through out the season as we post a small recap of the past week’s USL action.
It’s was a jammed pack week of matches to finish out the month of April. We also had the (I think) final three home openers pulling in big crowds.
Rochester Rhinos: 2
Chicago Fire Reserves: 0
- Rochester Picks up their first win of the season. It ended up being a very good week for Rochester
- Curiously the Chicago Fire Reserves voluntarily played a man down for the final 20 minutes or so. From my understanding it was something to do with the reserves team not having a full roster and one of the players could only play so many minutes since he played in the first team’s game that week. It was weird and a knock to the integrity of the league as this game does count towards the USL PRO’s standings.
Orlando City SC: 3
FC Dallas Reserves: 2
- Only Orlando’s second away game this season as they keep on flirting with the top of the table
Harrisburg City Islanders: 1
Orange County Blues FC: 4
- Terrible start to Harrisburg west coast road trip
- Fortunately for them there was barely anyone there to see it
Chicago Fire Reserves: 3
Charlotte Eagles: 2
- The Eagles jump out to an early 2-0 lead but squander it to a Chicago Fire Reserves team that actually played 11 men all game.
LA Galaxy II: 1
Arizona United: 1
- Los Dos has their first road game and have a less than stellar (ha) showing
- Despite the troubles last season and over the off season Arizona United has been drawing good crowds for their first three games. It’s nice to see soccer can work there when a team is run well
Charleston Battery: 0
Pittsburgh Riverhounds: 0
Richmond Kickers: 5
Dayton Dutch Lions: 1
- An absolute thrashing by the Kickers. This game was 2-1 at the half, but Richmond took advantage of a Dayton red card in the 55th minute to score 3 more goals
- Delicate continues to be a force, picking up 2 goals in this match
Charlotte Eagles: 2
Wilmington Hammerheads: 0
- Wilmington has played three games this season but only scored in one. The 4-3 win over the Riverhounds
Orlando City SC: 2
OKC Energy FC: 1
- While the score line is close OKC didn’t pick up their single tally until the 90th minute
- A nice crowd of 4,230 for the Energy’s home opener. Hopefully they can keep it up
- Orlando briefly jumps to the top of the table and is the only team to remain unbeaten
- I still think Orlando’s record has greatly benefited by an easy early schedule against teams having slow starts. On the other hand at some point wins are wins
Harrisburg City Islanders: 2
Sacramento Republic FC: 1
- Once again Harrisburg rises up to the occasion to upset a team’s home opener and pick up their first win of the season
- Sacramento draws a record breaking crowd of 20,231. While they are moving into a smaller stadium in a few weeks, we’ll see if the attendance numbers stay up if/when the MLS carrot-on-a-stick stops
- Holy crap make the score graphics on the stream smaller Sacramento
Charleston Battery: 0
Rochester Rhinos: 1
- Rochester picks up a win for their home opener
- 0 goals and 0 points for Charleston on this road trip
LA Galaxy II: 3
Orange County Blues FC: 0
- Not much of a road trip for Galaxy II as they beat up on the Blues… again
- The Galaxy II have put up three goals against the Blues in each of the three matches so far this season. Three of the Galaxy II’s four wins are against the Blues. It must be nice to have a close by team to beat up on when you need points
LA Galaxy II and Orlando City duel for first place, and then there’s everyone else.
Note: Our table may not accurately reflect tie breaker scenarios, though I will do my best. When in doubt refer to the official USL table.
