Tuesday Hangover: We're Going to Win the League

I probably shouldn’t have put a day of the week in the title if I’m not going to keep on schedule. Oh well.

It’s been quite the results roller coaster over the last week and half. There was the high of our first league win, the lows of a home defeat the very next game, and finally capping it off a middling 0-0 draw on the road. Though all of those matches we didn’t really learn much about the team. From my vantage point they played pretty consistent throughout all three games. A resounding meh. The only difference is they were able to capitalize on a couple chances in the Rochester match that they didn’t get in the other two.

But hey I’ll take it to get that goose egg out of the win column.

The crazy part is even being 1-7-5 the Hounds are only 8 points out of a playoff spot with a little over half the season to go. With as bad as this season has been so far there’s still a slim chance if they can have an amazing second half.

We’re at the bottom of the table
Propping it up
Where the fuck is my cup
Sitting at the bottom of the league

While the team still keeps on being who they are this season I think over these last three games the Steel Army has started to turn a corner. Finally getting a win was a much needed pressure release that I think propelled some of us to the last state of grief- acceptance. We’re almost halfway through the season and still at the bottom of the table. I think we all know where this is going.

That’s not to say we’re going to be all smiles the rest of the way. Some of us are still going to get angry at bad losses, poor performances, and when they cut off beer sales in the 70th minute. But it means we can start reveling in how terrible things are going (perhaps in an ironic hipster sort of way), and start to have some fun again. You would have thought we were top of the league the way the bus to Harrisburg was rocking on the way to the game. You would have thought we won with how loud it was going home. It was a blast and way more fun than being miserable 24/7. After all isn’t having fun a big part of why we do what we do? I think so, and it’s something I had forgotten while being angry at this bad, bad season.

We’re going to win the cup
We’re going to win the cup
And now you’re going believe us
And now you’re going believe us
And now you’re going believe us
We’re going to win the cup!

Note: This was written before the Open Cup game, but I still feel the same.
