Sometimes we search the Internet for “Riverhounds” to see if there’s anything worth seeing, and sometimes you find surprises like this-

Nothing official from the club yet but it looks like we’ll be seeing another new face in the line up besides Pridham.

Ribeiro is listed as a 23 year old 6’0″ Midfielder / Defender out of Creighton University. He played for the Portland Timbers U-23’s in 2012 making 14 appearances and scoring 2 goals. Ribeiro was drafted in the fourth round, 70th overall, of the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft by New York Red Bulls, but was released in the preseason. Shortly after he signed with the Harrisburg City Islanders where he made 24 appearances last season, averaging 70 minutes a game. I don’t remember much of him from last season, but he only had 1 assist and 7 shots on goal so they must have played him more as a defender. Earlier this year he signed with Chivas USA, however was released by the team early in the season without any appearances for the team.

Honestly we don’t know a ton about the guy, but if this signing is indeed true then I imagine this is the Hounds giving themselves some defensive options as they try to make a run at the end of the season. It also shows the Hounds aren’t going to sit on the newly freed up Collins John money. Ribeiro hasn’t played professionally since he was released by Chivas USA earlier this year. Hopefully he kept up his fitness. We’ll see if this week’s additions to the team are enough to get the Hounds out of the bottom and into the playoffs, or if it’s too little too late.

The Riverhounds are in Utah tonight to take on the Real Salt Lake Reserves. Kick off is at 7:00 pm ET and should be streamed on RSL’s YouTube channel.
