Annual General Meeting Is Today!

2015 Steel Army Annual General Meeting

Today, 3PM

Highmark Stadium

After months of waiting for a new season to roll around, we officially kick off the Steel Army year with the AGM. We know there may be a decent amount of new people showing up today, so we’ve put together an FAQ of things we’ve been asked in the last couple of weeks as well as some additional information.

Q: Where should I park for the AGM and for games?

A: You should be looking to park in what we’ve referred to as the West Lot. It is the parking lot that is on the same side of the stadium as the offices, locker rooms, and no longer will be referred to as the bistro. Refer to this map to help guide. Basically, if you do not drive underneath the Fort Pitt Bridge, you are in the wrong spot.

Q: Where at the stadium is the meeting?

A: Due to the renovations of the bar area and team store, we expect to be upstairs where the offices and ‘suites’ are located. We will have someone posted at the doors to help direct you. Just be sure to look for the glass double doors when approaching the stadium, not the entrance gates you would use on game days.

Q: I’m not sure if I want to join/I have a friend who wants to come with me, but he may not join, is that ok?

A: Absolutely! This meeting is open to anyone. As with all Steel Army events, a paid membership is never required.

Q: Can I register for the Army at the AGM?

A: Yes. In fact, we would kind of prefer that you did join in person. The online registration is great and helps us raise funds to help purchase supplies in the off-season. However, when you register in person, we can avoid the transaction fees associated with the online registration. That means more money for fun stuff.

Q: So, if I don’t have to have a paid membership to attend these events, why should I join?

A: By joining the Army, you will receive an awesome scarf that won’t be made available anywhere else, at any cost. You’ll also receive two canvas patches that will look awesome on your Hells Angels jacket. Plus, there are the membership discounts to some awesome businesses we know many of our members like to frequent. Plus, paid membership will get you a cut on the price to some other events we put on during the season. Most importantly, we think you should consider it because it helps us stay in operation. Tifo, smoke, tailgate supplies, and operational expenses are just that… expenses. If you haven’t noticed, this isn’t steelarmy.blogspot.com. We think we do as good of a job, if not better, as any other group in the league.

Q: I have an idea for a song/tifo/cheer/etc.., should I say something at the AGM?

A: Yes, please! If this is just a couple of people talking to the larger group without any exchange of ideas, this could get boring real fast.

Q: I saw something about elections. What’s up with that?

A: In January, the nominations for the two member representative board positions were up for nomination. We had six Army members nominated, of which three accept their nomination. So, the AGM is where we will hold the election(by paper ballot) to determine which two people will take a seat on the board.

Q: How long do you expect the meeting to last?

A: Formally, the meeting could probably be done in under an hour. In reality, we have a idea to discuss and questions to answer. There will be food to eat and drinks to drink. The team president will be there to hold a Q & A session. So, we could take a couple hours easily. Don’t feel pressured to stay the entire time. There are a couple people with tickets to the 6pm Pens game (Stupid 6pm face off)

Q: Did I read that right, free food and drinks?

A: Yes. Yes you did read the right. Light snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided, gratis. A bar will be open to purchase adult drinks. Bring your ID.

Q: Are you trying to push this post to 700 words, just because?

A: Yes, it makes me feel a bit accomplished.
