The Hounds sweep the season series 3-0-0 by a score of 10 to 2.
It was a good weekend for the Hounds. They played a strong game against Toronto II and outside of a couple chances kept the Reds from looking all that dangerous. Even when they had chances loanee keeper Jesse Gonzalez did a great job defending the net. The only goal he let up was a screamer that I don’t think any keeper would’ve saved. Vincent keeps on keeping on, and Cabrilo put one in the back of the net in front of his family. All in all a good weekend and another confidence booster. This will be the last time the Hounds play Toronto II this year. It’s a bit of a shame really. It’s nice getting an easy 9 points off of an opponent over the course of a season.
A surprising story going into this game was the Hounds starting their 5th different keeper this year. I’ve heard it said that Brown is the keeper of the future for the Hounds, and I believe it. He was a great college keeper and has the frame you’d want in net. But he’s still very raw as far as playing at the professional level goes. The Hounds seeking out another keeper and getting Gonzalez on loan from FC Dallas seems to indicate that even if Brown is the team’s future, he’s not what they think they need right now. To finish out the season and land in the playoffs the Hounds are prioritizing current talent over future talent. (Aside: If Gonzalez is around next week I wonder what it says about Thompson coming back at all this season.) It’s the name of the game in professional sports, especially with the roster freeze coming up. Hopefully Brown is taking it in stride. It is great to see the Hounds making moves to go for it this late in the season instead of just sitting back and going “we’re better than last year so good enough.”
The Hounds return home this weekend to take on Charlotte in another… again… critical match up. Charlotte has played upset to several teams this season, aren’t too far behind the Hounds, and have quite a few games in hand. Kickoff is at 7 pm. Tailgate starts at 4.
Also, don’t forget signups for the Harrisburg Away Trip bus are now open! YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A STEEL ARMY MEMBER FOR THIS TRIP.
Playoff Watch
Last weekend was extremely favorable for the Hounds playoff changes. They currently sit in 6th but are only 3 points out of 4th with a game in hand against both teams ahead of them. Harrisburg and Charlotte are right behind the Hounds and have multiple games in hand against them. The next two matches are must wins for the Hounds.
