ICYMI on Saturday, we are happy to announce Ryan James was voted as the Steel Army Player of the Year for the 2020 season. Ryan’s dominating presence on the field this year has been a joy to watch, and along the way he captured the hearts of our membership by absolutely running away with the vote (almost 60% !!!). Well done Ryan! We look forward to seeing things continue into the playoffs.
In addition to the overall Player of the Year award we’d also like to recognize players who were at the top in the individual categories. They may not take home a physical award, but their performances this year still deserve to be celebrated.
Player (vote percentage)
Keeper:
Vitiello (86.1%)
Gomez (13.9%)
Defender:
James (86.1%)
Dover (11.1%)
Thomas (2.8%)
Midfielder:
Mertz (52.8%)
Vancaeyezeele (36.1%)
Forbes (8.3%)
Forward:
Mensah (47.2%)
Dos Santos (44.4%)
Dikwa (8.3%)
Finally, a shout out to everyone on the team who isn’t listed above. These polls are always tough because you can only pick one player out of a roster of 20+ extremely talented individuals. We may only formally recognize a handful of people in these polls, but we wouldn’t make it to the playoffs without the full effort and talent of every guy on the roster.
