The colonial army had Saratoga. The North had Gettysburg. The Russians had Stalingrad.

This game was a turning point in the season for the Riverhounds. Showing poise and character when down by 2 goals in the second half, they rallied and scored four unanswered goals to silence the Harrisburg fans at Skyline Sports Complex.

As always, Jose Angulo led the way with some timely goals, and Darren Amoo and Mike Seth got in on the action, as well. With some strong defensive play by Flunder and Marshall and some timely saves by Hunter, the Hounds were able to withstand the last-minute push by the Islanders to preserve the lead.

Several members of the Steel Army made the trip to Harrisburg to cheer the Hounds in person, while 30-40 supporters in Pittsburgh–including Seth C’deBaca, Kevin Kerr, and Rich Costanzo’s mom–packed Hough’s in Greenfield to watch the game through the USL live stream.

@THE_AlphaHounD1’s JUICED Meter

The Hounds are currently showing a 10 OUT OF 10 on the #JUICED meter!

The players are currently JUICED out of their minds! It takes balls of steel to come out of the gates in the second half, trailing by two goals, and score FOUR un-answered goals in the second half in an away match. Scoring opportunities were abundant, and everybody–including Amoo and Seth–was getting in on the scoring.

NOTES:

  • Sterling Flunder was out of control in front of the Hounds’ net. He made up for several mistakes by the wing backs and continuously disrupted chances for the Islanders. He and Marshall seem to work really well together in the middle of the defense.
  • Rob Vincent and Ryan Kinne did an excellent job filling the void left by C’deBaca and Kerr in the midfield. Kinne had an assist on Angulo’s second goal, and Vincent fired off some excellent opportunities in the second half. The Hounds’ midfield is deeper than it has ever been.
  • The first goal that was scored against the Hounds was directly caused by a mis-communication between Rich Costanzo and Hunter Gilstrap. Hunter yelled for the ball, Rich did not listen, got beat, and bam, the Hounds were down by a goal. Look for Evans and company to resolve whatever communication issues there are currently on the back line.
