GAMEDAY: Rochester Rhinos vs. Pittsburgh Riverhounds

3PM, Highmark Stadium

Pittsburgh welcomes the only other USLPro club to Highmark for preseason action, as the Rhinos come down from New York for a high-level (maybe?) friendly.

The Hounds last formal preseason game was a two-nil loss to the University of Virginia. However, the club did play in a less formal closed-door exhibition mid-week. The biggest news out of the Evans’ camp has been the lack of news. The confirmation of signings or re-signings that were already known accounted for the bulks of the press releases coming out from Carson Street. The announcement of the four, or more, players arriving from the Houston Dynamo is expected tomorrow. While, we have leaned from the gaffer, there are, at lest, two other signings expected before the season opens in Orlando. As for the players already in camp, the focus will be on their progression of fitness and form. Multiple players were seemingly still a little sluggish, while the timing on crossing attempts inside the 18 were inches away from finding their intended targets. This match should also mark the start of the expected competition for the starting goalkeeping job.

Rochester has played two known preseason games, thus far; a nil-nil tie against Syracuse on March 7 and a two-nil victory a couple of days later against Birmingham. The biggest news from Rochester since those games has been the arrival of a pair of New England Revolution players as part of their affiliation with the MLS club. With the agreement calling for a minimum a four players, there are still, at least, two more players still due to arrive in Rochester.
